What Happened to Digimon Super Rumble?

Did Digimon Super Rumble ever launch? Did it ever even leave Beta testing? Are the Korean players hoarding the game all to themselves and do we ever have any chance of receiving it over here in the West? And most importantly, why would they call it Digimon Super Rumble? That’s a terrible title for an MMO.
Admittedly, those are all very good questions. And while we’re filled with questions concerning the game, very little in terms of answers have been provided to us.
However don’t dismay – there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

First, let me address the fact that yes, yes it has left Beta testing. The game has been in a fully playable state all year. If you navigate on over to the official website, you’ll see there’s an option to download the game client.
I successfully downloaded it myself, but I have yet to see what happens when I attempt to install it. I speculate we’ll still run into the same issues we did during the Beta test – and that is not having a Korean phone number.
Yet if you manage to get around that and activate an account, you’ll be able to fully play the game. There was never, and still remains no IP blocks in place that prevent players outside of Korea from accessing the game.
As this is a Korean MMO, it is not translated into English yet. So do keep that in mind before wasting time and money on a Korean phone number. Since I’m gonna go out on a limb here and assume if you’re interested enough, you’ll no doubt opt to purchase one.

Clicking over to their “Announcement” page, I noticed they’re in active communication with their community. There are updates almost daily concerning events, alterations to the game, additions to the game, bug fixes.
I went through the 10 pages worth of announcements and didn’t find anything concerning a release outside of Korea though. Which doesn’t mean that the game isn’t releasing outside of Korea. It just means that at present, even with the ridiculous frequency of updates, they have no plans of releasing the game Westward.
I tried searching off-site. Their Discord. Public forums. The developers have not spoken about a Global release in any capacity. Looking at their game though – and I mean this in the nicest way possible: It still looks largely incomplete.
Seeing the scenery, seeing the character models. How everything interacts with one another. It’s all still so clunky, so far from an acceptable state in my opinion.
Taking a moment to look through their updates, they’re introducing entirely new areas, new Digimon, new features. So while my comment about the game looking and feeling incomplete is entirely valid, I’m guessing they’re still heavily in the process of improving and finalizing the game – ahead of any type of international release.
If they release in this form, the game will be dead before it has the chance to even capture an audience.

Judging from the little information I could find, it looks as though the game is going to remain a PC exclusive. They have no intentions of releasing this game neither on console, nor on mobile platforms.
Much like Digimon Masters Online, we’re only going to be able to play this on PC.
And much like Digimon Masters Online, this game is unfortunately probably going to run into issues concerning pay to win. I don’t know any Korean players that actively play this game at present, but I know how horrendously pay to win its predecessor was.
It looks like they’re sticking to a turn-based combat system. Honestly, I feel as though this is highly limiting the game’s potential as while I’m a huge fan of turn-based JRPGs, I do not think turn-based combat works in MMOs.
Where players have varied levels of patience, and limited time. There is confirmed PvP present as well, which makes this even more unimaginable to process. Think for a moment: A person waiting 60 seconds between every individual attack.
Unless there’s a much shorter timer – in which case, players in different parts of the world with lag might be at a severe disadvantage.
If Digimon Super Rumble ever released over here in the West, much like in Korea, the game will be completely free to play. Maybe not free to win – but definitely free to at least play. As you’ll be competing with whales that have more money than you’ll ever have to invest.

All in all, I know this isn’t what you were hoping to hear. But they haven’t forgotten about the game – on the contrary, the game is more alive than ever, with a more active team than almost any MMO released in the West.
And while we don’t have a confirmed release date for North America, Europe or anywhere other than Korea, I’m sure it’s only a matter of time. They’ll want to milk us like I used to milk my Miltank back in Pokemon Crystal after all.

Digimon Super Rumble Enters FULL Open Beta Test

I love Digimon. The first Digimon World and the constant struggle to get your companion to a potty so it doesn’t turn into a Sukamon or Numemon. The original Digimon Adventure TV series featuring Tai and Matt… man, that’s some of my childhood right there.
I’ve covered this a couple times over the course of the year – honestly, I feel like I’m the ONLY MMOTuber to even be actively aware this game is in the process of development.
But, the reason we’re here today is because… well, pre-registration for the new Digimon MMORPG, “Digimon Super Rumble” is currently open and available. For their upcoming Open Beta test phase! Yes, no Closed Beta. A full Open Beta, meaning everyone can get right into the game and play it without restriction.

Do note that the pre-registration will only be available until November 24th, 2021. There are in-game rewards for players that participate in this event, the “First Costume Set” and “Fairy Wing” respectively.
Both of which seem to be cosmetic items, which confirms there will be outfits present within the game, either earnable in-game or via the cash shop. It’s worth noting that these cosmetic outfits are only going to be given to the first 2,000 players – so they are in fact very limited.
There will also be a social media campaign going on with rewards including iPads, Apple watches and.. a surplus of other items for players that participate.

So what do we know about the new Digimon MMO thus far? Well, other than the fact that it’s almost ready to release, its actual name is Digimon Super Rumble.
This is a Korean title being developed by Move Games, and is being developed using Unreal Engine 4 – an engine that MMOs and their respective developers seem to be prioritizing when it comes to MMOs these days. Except Bluehole. They made Elyon using Unreal Engine 3.. for whatever reason. Which totally escapes me.
I understand why. Unreal Engine 4 makes a lot of things possible. Graphically, mechanically.

Move Games are the very same developers behind Digimon Battle, and the currently available Digimon MMO “Digimon Masters Online.” I know some of you have mixed feelings when discussing Digimon Masters, but you can’t argue the fact that at its core.. it’s an actual Digimon MMORPG.
A full-fledged Digimon MMORPG. That’s something we can’t say about Pokemon. Or DBZ. Or Yu-gi-oh! So while it might be.. let’s go ahead and say “less than stellar,” it’s still a functional Digimon MMO, and Super Rumble is expected to be a faithful adaptation of the “Digimon Adventure” story.
Yup, the game is going to be based around the material from the Anime, featuring Tai, Matt, TK, Sora, Joe and Mimi. Along with their corresponding Digimon partners like Agumon, Gabumon and Patamon. Oh and.. Kari and Angewomon.

While the narrative will center around the “Adventure” story, Move Games did confirm that they have every intention of taking the game in its own direction.
They’ll have aspects of the Anime present, but this will, for all intents and purposes, be its own, fully functional standalone title. Sure, you’ll encounter characters found within the Anime. You’ll see areas, locales that were present within the Anime as well.
But there will be entirely new areas developed specifically for this game, and you’ll come across a slew of characters built for Super Rumble alone.
In their words, “Not only will it provide players with a sense of nostalgia, but it will also keep things fresh.”

Interestingly enough, Digimon Super Rumble utilizes a turn-based combat system. Digimon Masters utilized a tab-target combat system, something that was rather prevalent throughout MMOs in the early 2000s to late 2010s, but given the drastic shift in terms of what players enjoy in terms of gameplay, it’s unusual to not take advantage of that.
Not that this combat looks bad, it’s an interesting combat style, honestly. And unique gameplay mechanics are what will ultimately keep players interested in the long-term. We don’t have any need for the same content with a different wrapping.
It’s also unusual that they have no plans of sunsetting Digimon Masters. Meaning that they’ll end up having more than 1 Digimon MMO online at a given time. Being direct competition for.. well, itself.
In what world would you want your main competitor to be.. yourself? You’re essentially forcing your players to choose between your own two games, as they’re the only competition for one another.

And that’s it. Digimon Super Rumble will be fully playable later in November. Only several weeks out.
This is going to be free to play, so you won’t be required to pay a fee to play it.
And finally… this very well may be the Digimon MMO we’ve been waiting for ever since we tried and didn’t really vibe with Digimon Masters.
Hopefully you all successfully pre-register for the Beta test, and hopefully I see you guys in-game soon!

Digimon Super Rumble is finally, after months of waiting, entering a fully playable state. Pre-registration for Digimon Super Rumble’s Open Beta test phase is currently open, and I have exactly what you need to pre-register in anticipation of playing!

Digimon Super Rumble Open Beta Pre-Registration

Digimon Super Rumble is finally, after months of waiting, entering a fully playable state. Pre-registration for Digimon Super Rumble’s Open Beta test phase is currently open, and I have exactly what you need to pre-register in anticipation of playing!

digimonsuperrumbleopenbeta-min

That’s right, pre-registering for the Open Beta is fast and simple.

All you’re required to do is enter your phone number and email address. The game will NOT be IP restricted, meaning you’ll be able to access the game outside of its country of origin in South Korea.

If you’re having difficulty using your own phone number to pre-register (some people seem to be experiencing this issue,) I’d advise you use a free service like SMS Online. It’s helped people get into games like Blade & Soul 2 and other Korean titles in the past, and I would think it would work for this as well.

Make sure you click the pre-registration button above, and then you’ll be all set to jump right in! Remember, the pre-registration will only be available until November 24th, 2021. There are in-game rewards for players that participate in this event, the “First Costume Set” and “Fairy Wing” respectively.

Digimon Super Rumble is a New Upcoming MMORPG

As an avid fan of the Digimon franchise, I couldn’t be more excited with this reveal. I grew up with Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02. I used to watch new episodes every morning before school with DBZ, Yugioh, Yu Yu Hakusho and Cardcaptors. One of my favorite RPGs of all time is also the very first Digimon World.
So when I learned earlier this morning that there was a brand new Digimon MMO in development, I couldn’t contain my excitement. I literally HAD to cover it.

So what do we know about the MMO so far? The original article is in Korean, so I’ve gone and kind of consolidated all of the information in as easily digestible format as I possibly can.
So let’s start this off by stating that the new Digimon MMO, titled “Super Rumble” is a large-scale Digimon MMO being developed by Move Games. These are the developers behind Digimon Battle, and the currently still available Digimon Masters MMO.

According to Move Games, there are two aspects of the game that really allow for Super Rumble to stand out. On the one hand, this is being built utilizing Unreal Engine 4 – an engine most MMOs seem to be prioritizing using these days. And it makes sense. You can make some pretty good looking worlds with the tools.
They went on to state that “Unreal Engine 4 really allows them to vividly embody the digital world of the original.”

The second aspect that they seem to be focusing on is the narrative present within the game – with the background being based around the Digimon Adventure material from the Anime, featuring characters like Tai, Matt, TK, Sora, Joe and Mimi, along with their corresponding Digimon partners like Agumon, Gabumon and Patamon.

And while the narrative will center around the “Adventure” storyline, they have every intention of taking the game in its own direction.

Not only will you be a Digidestined, but you’ll come across a slew of original characters made specifically for this title, new stories that have never been told before, entirely new regions specific to Super Rumble and will feature Digimon you never expected to see.
They stated “Not only will it provide players with a sense of nostalgia, but it will also keep things fresh.”

digimon-super-rumble-3-min

Move Games went on to confirm that while they haven’t released a trailer, or any in-game footage outside of these screenshots up until this point, they are looking to open Closed Beta registration in the near future. Meaning that this is already well through the development process, not requiring any Alpha testing.

It’s unusual that they have 2 Digimon MMOs already running concurrently with one another, with Digimon Battle being online for 19 years now, and Digimon Masters.. well, I’ll be doing an updated video on that soon. But having 3 Digimon themed MMOs all vying for the very same audience? Seems a tab bit silly.
Maybe they’ll shut down Battle after its 20th anniversary, and this is their attempt at a spiritual successor.

While it’s definitely uncertain exactly what level of quality title we’ll ultimately end up with, the developers — Move Games, have stated that the vast majority of their staff are “fanatics of Digimon, so a high level of perfection is expected.”
That’s a certain degree of ease that I’m put at upon hearing that, definitely, but Digimon Masters ended up pay to win, as all free MMOs do, and their latest Digimon game was Soul Chaser, a mobile game released back in 2018.
